The Process
To identify the selection of strikers to analyse, I wanted to find players that have high quality shots, but don’t shoot often. This (graph below) could highlight players that could strive in a team where they get more service. Minimum of 900 league minutes.
After zooming in on the strikers who fit the criteria, I looked to see who performs in the key metrics of the attacking/finishing phase (graph below).
Attack
A closer look at one striker from each league.
Sane (Ligue 2)
Forte (Serie B)
Kone (Bundesliga 2)
Gassama (La Liga 2)
Hogan (Championship)
Looking at their score in the attacking phase. The darker the bar, the more non-pen goals p90 the player has scored, with Hogan from Birmingham far ahead. (Chart below).
A Closer Look
Hogan from Blues has had a brilliant start to his loan, forming an excellent partnership with Jutkiewicz! Sane, 27yo of Sochaux, is an aerial threat, fast and intelligent mover. Netting 10 goals so far for the 14th placed side.
The 3 players I’ll be zooming in on, as the players with the most potential to move to more dominant teams.
First up, Kone, a player who got his move in January, leaving Dresden to play at Nîmes. He has a solid profile and is a stand-out in his defensive game.
Next up Gassama. Making most of his appearances for Almeria, before being snapped up by Valladolid and loaned to Fuenlabrada, Gassama is a serious aerial threat. Generating 2.47xG per 100 touches, he looks a deadly threat.
Forte, of JuveStabia, has great technical ability, and can bring others into the game well. A set-piece specialist, on loan from Belgian side Waasland-Beveren, could be a coup for a side that needs a threat up front.
Comparing Profiles
This radar (below) shows the 3 very different profiles of each of the players. Gassama, an aerial finisher. Forte, a link man that can finish the move. Kone, a live wire in the final third, in possession and out.
